10 reasons why international trips are life-changing for students and teachers!
Have you ever felt your enthusiasm for teaching start to diminish? I think that we all feel it at some point. You've been teaching for a few years; doing the same things; day in and day out. Everyhing starts to become routine and humdrum. Maybe you even start to question your career choice; how can you keep doing this for a few more decades?
I've felt this several times over my career. And I think the root cause is boredom. The solution? Bring in some excitement and adventure!
Here are 10 reasons that I think that student travel is one of the most important things that can happen for students (and teachers):
- A transformative, life changing adventure that they’ll tell their grandchildren about!
- Sparks a sense of confidence that positively impacts their future college and career.
- A disruptively, divergent realization about how both huge and small this planet is.
- First hand knowledge about how much we both do and do n’t have in common with other humans.
- How both blessed and limited we are by our life circumstances on this tiny dot on the globe where we live and go to school.
- How important it is to nourish old friendships... and cultivate new international friendships!
- An experiential education that can’t happen in a classroom.
- A curiosity for new foods, cultures, and ideas.
- The enlightenment that comes when we learn from the mistakes and triumphs of history.
- To simply have the most fun together that you’ve ever had!
I'm happy to offer any advice or coaching that I can to get you started on your first adventure! Please don't hesitate to email me at jerry@teachertravel.net :)
